Ethiopian White Welo Opal Silver Pendant
This pendant is 47mm (1.85") tall from the top of the bail and 23mm (.90") wide. The opal is much more flashy than what the picture shows. (chain not included)
Ethiopian opal was brought to market in 1994. A gem quality solid opal from the Welo District of Ethiopia. Australian opals are sedimentry forming in acient sea beds and such. Ethiopian opals are formed by volcanic activity. Volcanic opal is called hydrophane. Hydrophane ia a term used for porous opal that absorbs water. So these opals should not be exposed to water for long periods of time. As they may rehydrate and then shrink as they dry causing fracturing.
