Carnelian Agate

Carnelian is a brownish red silica mineral (Chalcedony) colored by impurities of iron oxide. The colors vary greatly ranging from pale orange to an intense almost black coloration and everything in between. Carnelian is mined commercially in Brazil, India, Siberia, and Germany. However the State of Oregon produced fair quantities from places like Chandler Mountain and many of the beach agates qualify as carnelian.
